His biggest coup, however, was casting Kristen Stewart, co-star of the blockbuster Twilight films, as the underage hooker that the plot turns on. “I loved her in Into the Wild. I thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s exactly the right quality I’m looking for in Mallory.’ It’s a sort of feral quality.”

Scott spent a good year with the screenwriter, streamlining plot points and making them subtle. The death of the Rileys’ daughter is established in a deft and unexpected manner. “She used to exist in flashbacks, but one of the first things I did with Ken was take all the flashbacks out. I kept going back to the idea of restraint.

“While we were in New Orleans, it was very tempting to photograph the cityscape for all of its beauty, but I really didn’t think that was relevant to the characters.

“Some people have said, “It’s a shame you don’t get to see Kristen actually dancing on a pole,’ but that was again a conscious decision. I didn’t shoot it. I was being asked to shoot it, but I wouldn’t shoot it because I didn’t feel that it was relevant to what Doug was going through. And I think, if I had shown her doing that, it was possible the audience would connect that to Doug and to something he was doing as a character. I didn’t want that to happen. I didn’t want that to be in question.”

Eclipse soundtrack contributors Muse and Vampire Weekend are also nominated for "Favorite Alternative Rock Artist." Muse contributed the song "Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)" to the Eclipse album, while Vampire Weekend added "Jonathan Low" to the soundtrack.

Last year, Twilight's soundtrack won "Favorite Album" in the 2009 American Music Awards, so be sure to vote for Eclipse so the album can win this year as well!

This was a rough-and-tumble shoot, and when I was there on the set, he'd be lying in the dirt for 18 straight takes in a row, and he would nail every single one. He's a nice guy, and he reads. He always has a book in his hand. My family got cameos. I'm in a scene where Rosie [the elephant] is raiding a produce stand.

Michael's created fantastic looks for 300, WATCHMEN, and the upcoming TRON: LEGACY - just wait 'til you see his take on the vampire witnesses who come to Forks from around the globe.

Jean Black, our makeup designer, has worked extensively with the Coen Brothers and David Fincher, most recently making exquisite, award-winning contributions to THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. I'm honored to be working with her.

Richard Sherman, with whom I made GODS AND MONSTERS and KINSEY, is on-board as our production designer. Richard's one of my oldest collaborators and a terrific designer, and you may be interested to know that he also happens to be a lifelong vampire aficionado.

Our Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor John Bruno has been responsible for some of the most memorable special effects ever, with his groundbreaking work on display in everything from POLTERGEIST to AVATAR. He and his team are working intensely to develop solutions to the host of special effects challenges that Stephenie created for us in BREAKING DAWN, including that remarkable kid...

What we love about James Franco is that, despite pursuing a Ph.D. at Yale, garnering serious Oscar buzz in "127 Hours" and embodying a Hollywood A-list persona, he's taken time out of his busy schedule to keep up with the trends. That's right, James has both read and watched the "Twilight" books and films, and when MTV News caught up with him at the Toronto International Film Festival where he was promoting "127 Hours," he spent more time talking about the phenomenon than the film's stars typically do.

While he may not be a self-proclaimed Twi-hard after reading the series, James can at least reference Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner on a first name basis (you'd be surprised to find there are celebs out there who can't), and can clearly understand the deeper metaphors of the stories.

"I wouldn't say I enjoy them, but I'm fascinated with them," James said about the books. "I'm interested in the metaphor of the vampire placed in the high school setting and how a relationship with a vampire can stand in for general feelings that people have as teenagers. And the obsession people have with that is also fascinating to me."

James also took some time analyzing the role of the films in the whole "Twilight" craze. "It's really hard to extricate those actors from the reading experience of just the phenomenon of 'Twilight' now," he said. He also gave a shout-out to the self-references of "Eclipse" that we loved so much.

"The movies are almost commenting on themselves," he said. "There will be a scene where the go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent, it's almost like a 'Brokeback Mountain' scene, where the two guys are talking in a tent and the girl is asleep, and they're having, like, this romantic moment almost through her, in a way. One of them says, 'Well, I'm hotter than you,' and it's almost like they're winking at the fans, like to the Team Jacob or the Team Edwards."

But he does have one "Twilight" concession to make: He hasn't finished reading "Breaking Dawn." He has heard a bit about the birthing scene ("I kind of know what happens, some very strange birth, right?" he asked rhetorically), but at least his reasoning for calling it quits part way through the book matches our own frustrations when we were reading it the first time!

"I read a part of it. I think I got to the sex scene, but it was so brief, I didn't even know if it was the actual sex scene," he admitted. "It was kind of a letdown after all that buildup."

5 Scenes from the Book That Would Make 'Breaking Dawn' an R-Rated Movie

For three movies the Twilight franchise has flirted with subject matter that would normally garner an R-rating. Blood-thirsty vampires, sharp-fanged werewolves, and teenage sexual awakening are all subjects that require a delicate touch to win a PG-13 from the MPAA.

Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has batted down rumors that Breaking Dawn will be rated R, insisting that nothing is sacrificed in keeping it PG-13.
In the upcoming Breaking Dawn, the Twilight team faces it's trickiest challenge yet. The fourth book in the series takes all that mostly unspoken sexual tension and off-stage death and smashes it on the twin rocks of sex and gore.

While we know that Breaking Dawn's PG-13 rating is all but a foregone conclusion, here we take a look at the very- persuasive evidence that producers should think about making a mature-eyes-only Rated R tween movie... even if it only makes the unrated DVD release. In order to better illustrate these specific scenes which so far don't exist, we turn to the Internet with its happy abundance of Twilight-themed fan art. Enjoy!

1. Breaking More Than Just Dawn

In the Twilight films so far we've watched Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart do little more than play footsy while the sexual tension just builds and builds. After a total of more than six hours of nothing but playful hints of sexuality, the audience needs the honeymoon scene almost as much as Bella and Edward do. Of course if they did show it, it would be very controversial, and not just for Rob's blindingly white naked torso.

In the book, Bella describes the aftermath of the couple's first night together.
I stared at my naked body in the full-length mirror behind the door.

I'd definitely had worse. There was a faint shadow across one of my cheekbones, and my lips were a little swollen, but other than that, my face was fine. The rest of me was decorated with patches of blue and purple."

Bella also woke up covered in down feathers because Edward "bit a pillow. Or two." Of course the second time the two experience physical love there's not so much bruising, but it would definitely take things to the next level to see Robert Pattinson do the damage described in Chapter Six. After realizing her night gown has been torn to tatters, Bella assesses the rest of the damage.
"Were there any other casualties?" I asked timidly.

"I'll have to buy Esme a new bed frame," he confessed, glancing over his shoulder. I followed his gaze and was shocked to see that large chunks of wood had apparently been gouged from the left side of the headboard.

2. Li'l Killers

In Breaking Dawn, we're introduced to the epically creepy/ awesome concept of vampire toddlers running around annihilating villages thanks to their unchecked thirst for human blood. Bella even has a dream where one little vampire toddler with a cherubic face sits on top of a mound of bodies that includes all her closest friends and family.

If nothing else, can we please get these blood-guzzling tykes in the DVD extras? Carlisle describes them early on in the book.
"However, they could not be taught. They were frozen at whatever level of development they'd achieved before being bitten. Adorable two-year-olds with dimples and lisps that could destroy half a village in one of their tantrums. If they hungered, they fed, and no words of warning could restrain them. Humans saw them, stories circulated, fear spread like fire in dry brush..."

3. The Birth Scene

More than anything else in Breaking Dawn, the birth scene is a tough sell in PG-13. It will be hard to get across just how painful Bella's birth and subsequent transformation are without showing at least a little of the extensive gore in chapters 17 and 18.

At the end of Chapter 17, Jacob describes the "ripping sound" he hears as Bella prepares to give birth. Things go downhill from there.
...Bella screamed.

It was not just a scream, it was a blood curdling shriek of agony. The horrifying sound cut off with a gurgle, and her eyes rolled back into her head. Her body twitched, arched in Rosalie's arms, and then Bella vomited a fountain of blood.

It's hard to get Kristen Stewart to go all Exorcist in PG-13, but it gets much worse as Jacob literally compares the amount of blood in the room to "a bucket being turned over, a faucet twisted to full."

And of course there's the actual delivery of the baby, which is only made possible by Edward's steely fangs.
The next sound jolted through me, unexpected, terrifying. Like metal being shredded apart. (...) I glanced over to see Edward's face pressed against the bulge. Vampire teeth -- a surefire way to cut through vampire skin.

4. Bella Goes Hunting

OK, so you can definitely kill a mountain lion in PG-13, but to be faithful to the book, Kristen Stewart would really have to go after this thing. PETA would likely have words for her.
My teeth unerringly sought his throat, and his instinctive resistance was pitifully feeble against my strength. (...)

It was effortless as biting into butter. My teeth were steel razors; they cut through the fur and fat and sinews like they weren't there.

The flavor was wrong, but the blood was hot and wet and it soothed the ragged, itching thirst as I drank in an eager rush. The cat's struggles grew more and more feeble, and his screams choked off with a gurgle.

5. Strange Love

Stephenie Meyer leaves some wiggle room as to what exactly it means for a werewolf to "imprint" on someone. But there's no way around the fact that it's straight up creepy when Jacob imprints on Bella and Edward's new-born daughter, Renesmee.

The whole thing is made even weirder (even at PG-13) when Edward basically calls Jacob his future son-in-law near the end of the book, when Renesmee is at roughly the same maturity level as a seven-year-old.

This coincides with the earlier reported NOLA production schedule, September 7-16, 2010. Next scheduled stop is Mexico but this is reported 'on stand by' status . Since we do not have details of the scenes that were shot in NOLA, we do not know if Kristen is already done filming altogether or if she is moving on with the production on their next stop. If Marylou's scenes in Texas were also done in NOLA, then it is possible its a wrap for Kristen for OTR. Well, there are still reshoots to consider in the future, of course. Until then, we're on stand by.
